PROJECT: Liquid Recycling for Fortune 50 Food & Beverage Manufacturer
CHALLENGE: Liquid waste is a high cost in the food & beverage industry, both in the manufacturing processes as well as in the destruction of expired product. Wastewater sur-charges are difficult to manage and amount to a significant percentage of expense for production plants that crush expired product. This discharge can also be a detrimental impact on their local municipal wastewater systems.
SOLUTION: VIM Recycler’s experience in maximizing recycling efficiencies for plant operations resulted in the creation of LiquiCycle, a division that specializes in the diversion of liquids to “beneficial reuses”. LiquiCycle has assembled a group of “Off-Takes” that include technologies such as Anaerobic Digestion, (biogas and fertilizer) Biological Nutrient Removal (wastewater additives), and Composting (soil augmentation).
Note: Services are funded out of net savings realized by the "Generators".
– Eric Williams, General Manager
RESULTS:
Benefits for Generators: (1) Significant monetary savings (2) the advancement of environmental and sustainability goals, and (3) efficiencies that increase the capacity to focus on core businesses.
Benefits for Off-Takes: (1) A reliable and predictable feedstock supply with (2) on-going managed quality control processes, and (3) improved productivity and end-product yields, (e.g. increased biogas, reduced chemical requirements).
